Post Time:2018-02-24 17:03:36

China−ASEAN New Year Party was held in Beijing on 23rd January, 2018, during which ASEAN ambassadors to China and representatives from ten ASEAN countries as well as Chinese representatives toasted to all present to celebrate the New Year and share their wishes for new progress in the new year.

It is the 18th time for China−ASEAN Business Council (CABC) and ASEAN Committee in Beijing (ACB) to co-host the annual new year party, aiming at promoting good-neighbourliness and economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN countries. CABC is one of the dialogue cooperation mechanisms between China and ASEAN. ACB consists of ambassadors of ten ASEAN countries to China..

The past 2017 marks the “Golden Jubilee”-50th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN. Recent years of sustained and fast economic growth by China and its ASEAN neighbors have made them the “twin stars”in the constellation of development. “China’s Belt and Road Initiative and ASEAN’s Economic Community will bring the region closer and fuel growth together. The “twin stars”are going to shine even brighter in the 2018, according to Mr. Xu Ningning, Executive President of China−ASEAN Business Council (CABC).

Mr. Xu added that China always puts ASEAN high on its diplomatic agenda in developing ties with its neighbors. In November, Mr. Xi Jingping, Chinese President and General-Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), attended the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Vietnam and paid a state visit to Vietnam and Laos, which marked the first outbound trip of China’s top leader following the 19th National Congress of CPC. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang made his first in January 2018 to Cambodia for the 2nd Lancang−Mekong Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting and the state visit.

Mr. Xu introduced that China is the biggest trading partner of eight out of all ten ASEAN countries and the fourth largest source of foreign investment to ASEAN. China’s trade growth with ASEAN outpaced its average foreign trade growth and ranked the first among China’s top 3 trading partners (namely EU, US and ASEAN). Positive growth have been seen in China’s trade with all ten ASEAN countries in 2017.

Economic cooperation between two sides is on the rise. An array of moves including industrial capacity cooperation, inter-connectivity cooperation, the upgrading of China−ASEAN Free Trade Area, the upgrading of Lancang−Mekong Cooperation have been taken to counter challenges brought by complex and changing world economy and to give an impetus to economic growth in the region.

Mr. Xu pointed out that we not only celebrate the 15th anniversary of the founding of China−ASEAN strategic partnership, but also embrace the China−ASEAN Year of Innovation in 2018. Innovation requires multiple resources input and massive participation. In the coming year, China and ASEAN are expected to make innovation in political cooperation to enhance mutual trust and support and accommodation for each other’s concerns; in economic cooperation to achieve better complementarity and common development; in cultural and people-to-people exchanges cooperation to foster good-neighborliness and generations of friendship; and in regional relations to boost stability and prosperity and bring benefit for all.

More than 200 people attended the Activity. Some ASEAN business leaders even came by plane from afar including Chairman of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brunei Darussalam, Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Founding Chairman of the Philippine Silk Road International Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the China−ASEAN Business Association.

More than 60 people offered their new year video greetings including former Prime Minister of Thailand, President of U.N. Association of China, Brunei Ambassador to China, Economic and Commercial Counselor of Mission of PRC to ASEAN, Deputy Secretary-General of China−ASEAN Expo Secretariat, Chairman of Lao National Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Vice Chairman of Indonesian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Singapore−China Business Association President of Malaysia−China Friendship Association, Vice Chairman of Thai Chamber of Commerce & Industry and so on. They demonstrated a common aspiration -“the cooperation between China and ASEAN countries could be further enhanced for common development in the coming new year.”
