Malaysia reports 3,764 new COVID-19 infections, 22 more deaths

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported 3,764 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Thursday, bringing the national total to 2,820,927, according to the health ministry.

There are 522 new imported cases, with 3,242 being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

A further 22 deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 31,853.

The ministry reported 3,254 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 2,747,457.

There are 41,617 active cases, 160 are being held in intensive care and 72 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported 234,983 vaccine doses administered on Thursday alone and 79.8 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 78.7 percent are fully vaccinated and 31.3 percent have received boosters.
